Colette actually remembered she had an office this week.

Granted, this was largely because her cookbooks lived there and she needed to study for the class on pastries on Tuesday. But she was there with the door open if anyone needed her help.

Knocking on the door, Jean peered on into the office with her best 'I'm an A student and you will adore me' smile. "Miss Tatou?"

Colette made a noise through her nose that might have been 'yes?' before glancing up and actually smiling at the redhead.

... she had a good smile!

"Ah, Jeanne. What brings you here?"

She had a darn good smile.

"Well, I was wondering about something for Student Council, actually."

"Student council," Colette repeated. "Ah. What is it?"

"Well, not everyone will be able to go home for Thanksgiving, so we thought we could set up a dinner for everyone staying here."

"Thanksgiving," Colette said, as if just barely familiar with the word. "That is the Americain one with the horrid pies and the turkey and the Indians, non?"

She knew perfectly well what it was, and didn't hate pumpkin pie that much; this was simply about her very French ego.

Jean looked a bit lost for a moment before she just nodded and hoped for the best there. Oh, the French.

"Yes! And it could be an extra credit assignment for class," She replied, bravely soldiering on.

"You want extra credit." Colette cocked her head. "Most of you are American, yes? So would you not have Thanksgiving either way?"

"...well, yes. But not everyone can go home for it and they deserve a good meal too." And extra credit.

"Everyone deserves a good meal on holidays, yes. Do you think if my class does not help, they will just eat the ramen?"

Note that she hasn't said anything about extra credit yet, Jean.

"Well..." They were all teenagers, after all.

Colette let out a mildly horrified sigh. "I will help." Even stupid teenage Americans did not deserve ramen on a holiday.

"But you understand it is my kitchen, and you will follow my rules. No marshmallows on anything."

Jean nodded with utmost sincerity. "No marshmallows."

Somewhere... Merlin was pouting.

Merlin was English. The English were even worse than the French.

"And we have decent wine with the meal." Then Colette remembered she was cooking for children. "... everyone over sixteen does, anyhow."

"But the drinking age is 21." Yes, thank you miss after school special.

"But it is not a holiday without wine," Colette said, and sighed again. She'd been making a concession by saying sixteen. "... we could offer a choice of water, cider or wine."

"That works!" Jean would just keep an eye on people. Like a mom.

Jean got a genuine smile for that. "What would we need to do to prepare?"

"Well, we need a turkey for sure and..." Jean smiled again. "Maybe we could ask people what they want for it. Or maybe everyone makes one thing they have at home normally."

"We have ..." -- she looked at the calendar -- "three classes until Thanksgiving. We could do menu planning this week."

"What will Student Council do?"

"We'll help organize it and make posters and all that." A beat. "Sam and I are the senior representatives so, we'll also be helping cook."

"... and the school will pay for my supplies, of course." It wasn't a question. "Miss Grey, you have a chef."

...hopefully Mr. Stinson could take care of that and she wouldn't have to talk to the vice principal.

"Great! Thank you so much for helping."

"Anytime," Colette said, more because it was what one said than because it was true.
